Important Note

  • You will need to solder this by yourself if you do not add the soldering service.
  • The micro USB micro-B connector in pro micro is relatively fragile. The legacy pro micros also require SPLIT_USB_DETECT as a workaround in split keyboards. It is recommended to use the USB-C controllers for wired split keyboard.
  • Wireless option doesn’t include a battery, because I cannot ship batteries. Please buy the batteries from other shops.

The kit was great. It had everything needed, as well as a few spares. The spare parts were needed as I destroyed one of the surface mounted reset switches during install.

It was a little tricky to figure out how to flash it, mainly because I’m a noob. The trick is to search on “flash sea-picro” not “flash ferris sweep.” I found https://joshajohnson.com/sea-picro/#documentation useful.

Take care when removing choc keycaps – use a keycap puller – they break easily. I would screw the board to the case before adding the keycaps.

On the keyboard itself, it is nice. Very compact. Having typed on it, I find the pinky stagger too aggressive, and the thumb keys are too far in.

Sadly I made the mistake of unplugging the TRRS cable when the keyboard was connected to PC via USB. In the process, I guess I created a short which fried the IO pins used for TRRS communication. Now each half works, but they don’t work as a pair.

I fully soldered the controllers to the board and doubt I can unsolder them. So I can’t really fix this. I’m not sure if it was okay to leave the controller unsoldered, I see folks showing how to make controllers removable. I really should have asked. Vendor answered all my queries, but from different timezone, and I was eager to build. So I just soldered everything.

Overall, it was another step forward on my learning journey.
